Harold pesters Jim, his owner, for carrots and water. Jim refers to Harold as '1 Tonne of Solid Cute' and insist that owners take care to keep their animals healthy. It's true that they get more exercise than horses in a regular riding stable.

Each horse has a number engraved onto its front left hoof. Like nailing in a shoe, it doesn't hurt, but PETA has had things to say about the work conditions at Central Park. Typically, a New York cab horse pulls up to four times its own weight in the carriage behind it, no easy task on a 43ºC day.

At last, Harold gets fed. The pidgins flock in, jumping into the bucket and getting in the way of his meal. Harold spits out a mouthful of grain onto the sidewalk. The pidgins follow, leaving him room to tuck in. Three or four more rides and he will return to the stable on 52nd street, where the yellow cabs and pedicabs are also stored at night.
