Christmas and New Years Eve
Hello All,
I hope you all had a fab Christmas and Santa bought you everything you could wish for. He bought us a new dishwasher!!!!! I have never been so delighted to receive kitchen appliances for Christmas. Two French plumbers (who spoke no English) turned up at 10.00am on Thursday morning and started banging about in the kitchen. Then we realised they were removing the broken dishwasher! Unable to ask them what was going to happen (we speak no French) we had to sit and wait to see what happened. And delight of delights, a new dishwasher appeared, by 11.00 we were up and running. There is no stopping us now, we are even getting some time on the slopes.
On Tuesday 22nd Dec we had a day off, and we all skied/boarded to Les Arcs 1800 for our staff Christmas dinner. How cool is that? None of this trying to arrange taxis, who’s picking who up or who’s going to drink or who’s going to drive. We just put on our skis and headed up the nearest lift.
Dinner was good, traditional Christmas turkey and trimmings, drank lots of red wine, in fact so much red wine, by the time I got home at 21.30 I passed out on the bed fully clothed!
Wednesday was shopping day again, so down to Bourg we headed, complete with sore heads and jiffy tummies from being out the night before, but we survived and shopping was achieved. Remember I told you about the lift breaking? Well our luck ran out, we had to lug £400 shopping up 6 flights of stairs. But, our lovely guests were home and they helped out, many hands make light work.
On Christmas Eve we went out to Whistlers Bar. It was a rocking night, lots of dancing and singing, and eventually we were kicked out at 02.30. Another early night...................
Up at 6 on Christmas day, Bucks Fizz and fry ups all round and then the biggest disappointment so far. We were supposed to be fancy dress skiing to a BBQ for lunch, but the weather was so bad none of the lifts were open L Complete white out. Eventually at about 1pm there were a couple of lifts open, and the weather cleared a little bit so Verity and I whizzed out quick and did a run. Lucky we did, because then it came down thick and fast so we headed home again. But we did ski on Xmas day.
Saturday 26th was our first changeover day, up at 4am to get the guests on the transfer bus so they can fly home, then scrub the chalet and set it up ready for our next lot. We were a little bit scared, our first guests were so nice, and what would the next lot be like? Absolutely bonkers is the answer to that! Whereas Christmas was all about family, New Year is all about party, we have a party of 12 who all play hockey together and then a party of two. By Wednesday night they had drunk the supermarket dry of beer! Most mornings I have to do 3 trips to the recycling bins with empty bottles, and this is not including all the chalet wine that is being consumed. Luckily the lift is working again.
On Tuesday (Day off) I skied to Vallendry with the hockey team. They pushed me on red slopes which I would never have chosen myself, and at the end I got a special award for being the only person to use every single inch of the piste, and the only person they have ever seen ski uphill!! I like a nice wide traverse, and when it is steep, going up helps me slow down, what’s wrong with that? ;)
By the end of the season I will be swishing down with the best of them. Richard (a chalet host) is going to teach me to ski backwards as well.
I think that brings me up to date. Today is New Years Eve. We are having a party on the piste tonight. Not quite sure what that is, but I will let you know when I find out.
So here’s wishing you all a fantastic 2010, I hope all your dreams and wishes come true. If you are having even half the fun I am I know you are in for a good time.
Take care all xxxxxx
