About guerillamanila
I’m just an amateur taking pictures on everyday streets, trying to find the extra in the ordinary, the beautiful in the mundane. I’d say I know little about photography. The only thing I really know is I love to look at pictures and take them.
My first digital camera was a point-and-shoot. And the film cameras I used before that were all automatic. So I was pretty much randomly shooting fully automatic weapons, taking snaps of the places where my wife and I travelled.
It wasn’t until 2009 that I got a DSLR. Since then, I have taken over 20 photography workshops. But I’d still say, I know little about photography. I consider myself an empty cup, only in as much as I consider myself a vehicle for learning. The more I get to know things, the more I get to know I know little, and the more I know there’s still a whole lot to know.
I’d like to keep my photography simple, to not be bogged down by all the technology, the technical settings, the tools of the trade. I want to keep it intuitive, instinctive, and evocative. But to be able to reach that Zen sate—where everything is second nature, where art meets science, where heart and mind are one—I think it has to come with experience, or more importantly, real-life experiences.
If life is a journey, I’d say photography is my medium to capture moments in the many travels I make in my lifetime. It is the canvas with which I paint my life experiences.
