A boy casts his net into the shallows of the Sundarban mangroves at the outskirts of his village. The island is primarily home to families of fishermen and honey-collectors, but its residents are increasingly having to look to nearby cities to find a means of income.

A lone goat wanders through the waning waters of the mangrove swampland. The rising and falling tides of the Gomor river mirror the ups and downs of the encroaching influences that nearby cities like Kolkata have on simplicities of traditional village life.

Despite the increasing influence of technology and urban culture on the Sundarban communities, families still retain a relatively simple lifestyle and a strong sense of community. Here, a group of men continue to work together as the sun sinks, collecting palm fronds for the thatching of one of their homesteads.
