Undervalued Heritage: Back Streets of Egypt

My Scholarship entry - A Space to Play

Egypt | Wednesday, October 29, 2014 | 5 photos

The more time I spend traveling, the more serious I become about photography. Now, no matter where I go, whether it’s on the Beijing Subway or at home in Chicago, I look for the perfect shot. After graduating with a BA in Anthropology and Classics, I moved abroad. I have lived in Egypt and China, this past year I studied cultural heritage management in Cairo.

Currently, I am interning at an American museum, where I am learning 3D modeling and photogrammetry. I enjoy this meticulous photography, but the thrill of turning a corner and capturing a moment otherwise lost is irresistible. I love the spontaneity of travel photography. Through photography I find a ‘voice’ and share experiences that will hopefully inspire others.

My passion for photography stems from my fascination with cultures. Photography pulls the viewer into a different life, and broadens the viewer’s understanding of the world. My background has helped me understand different imagery and cultures. The artistry and storytelling of my images will improve with help from Jason Edwards. This opportunity of a lifetime will launch my skills to a new level and open the world of professional travel photography to me.
