Sunrise over Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. To the left Mt Bromo steams in the early morning cold air while Mt Batok, the only non active volcano in the park, is the perfect volcano cone in the foreground. In the distance the highest peak on Java, Mt Semeru, can be seen.

Waiting for sunrise on Mt Pananjakan, late arriving tourists try to obtain better viewing positions by climbing onto the communications building under the illumination of moonlight and security lights. Viewing the sunrise from this location is one of the main attractions of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park and the tourists are four deep around the edge of the platform.

View through the morning mist from the top of the staircase up Mt Bromo to the Hindu temple Pura Luhur Poten on the Sea of Sand beside Mt Batok. Tourists on their morning sunrise tour finish the trip by climbing up from the temple, the smell of sulphur getting stronger as they near the top of the mountain.
