My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited - Aleppo Souk

In 2004 when I was working as a computer consultant in Nigeria, I decided ENOUGH! Within a week I packed my bags and moved back to Lebanon where I decided would be the place to start my dream of a photography career.
When established photographers say, “prepare to starve for the first ten years of your career” they aren’t kidding!
I was prepared to face the challenge; one that I still face today. I tried for a few years to live off only my photography covering all types of genres. Although there was very little income in it, most of the time none, photojournalism was and is my favourite.
For me it’s the experiences, the people and places behind a photographs that matter. It’s the feeling of satisfaction that comes after I push myself out of my comfort zone in order to get the shots I want.
Eventually though I had to take on a job at an art gallery in order to make ends meet, but my personal goal is to become a full time photographer (once again) and work internationally as a travel photojournalist. Most of us can only dream of such an opportunity as this scholarship which more than often is given in the form of workshops available to those who can afford them.
