Yabbying in the Aussie Outback

My Scholarship entry - Through Local Eyes

I wanted to get out into the bush and show you something you've never seen before. It's an old tradition to go "yabbying" in Oz, so I thought I'd show you how it's done! And I'm a 45 minute drive from the nearest town, so they doubled as dinner.

I know this will be incredibly hard for you to believe, and you will certainly think I am a professional film maker when you watch my video, but I've no experience in film making. That will not be obvious by the artistic longitudinal frame angle I've chosen, nor the highly professional editing software used, but it is true.

I am an actor, so I have spent a lot of time in front of cameras but I really want to move into film documentary. More recently I have been in commercial radio, and presented two networked radio shows daily across Western Australia.

This year I was a finalist in the prestigious Australian Commercial Radio Awards: Best Documentary. I am in pre-production on a 2013 radio documentary that will take place mostly at sea, and I would love to film it for a doco, so this would be a massive step for me.

Ideally I would like to move into documentary film making, so Trent's mentoring would be an amazing leap for my practice.

A great little mini docu that shows a slice of genuine aussie life that few city dwellers often see. I though the pop up facts were a nice touch also. Well done!

A few people have asked me what appears in the center of the frame in the last few seconds...have no fear and don't reach for your magnifying glass. It's just a notice from the editing software company that says something like "this is an unregistered version of blah". I obviously lashed out on dog food, hence the budget didn't stretch to software.
