My Scholarship entry - Afromexico

Minitan is a small community in Oaxaca. Most of its habitants are Afro-Mexicans, even though they don’t define themselves as such. In Mexico African-descent people were not considered as as a distinct ethnic group (unlike the indigenous) because over the years they had lost much of their identity and traditions. But being with them, it is easy to recognize a warmth and joy that you feel from elsewhere.
