About g_blu

My name is Geronimo Blu Owsley! I'm 18 years old right now, but I've always had a heart for helping people who can't help themselves. I started off by volunteering with my Church's outreach groups every saturday. The outreach groups were run by my older brother, Alex Jones-Moreno, at the time and that is where I found my passion for helping others. Seeing the happiness and hope on someone's face after helping them warms my heart.

I have traveled to a few different places around the world, but the most eye opening was the first place I went for a service trip with my Church and it was to Mexico. I'm not sure what the exact location in Mexico was, but I can say that it was less than an hour away from the border. The drive was a total of about three hours from the heart of Los Angeles. What I saw, was many different things that made me feel like my life's problems were nothing. There were villages that had no electricity, so to acquire electricity they would illegally set up wires to the electricity poles. I did not see this happen, but I heard that a few people have died from being electrocuted trying to provide electricity for their families. That was only one problem that the villages were going through. Poverty is destructive, but what I figured out was that poverty doesn't destroy the people going through it. The pride that the people had for their little possessions and family showed that they needed nothing more in life. Yes, their life is far from perfect, but they made the best of what they had! Being able to see that at a young age helped me to accept my life and the situations that I was going through.

The point of the trip to Mexico was to give away gifts and school supplies to the children of the surrounding villages. I was about fourteen or fifteen at the time, and I was helping kids my age and younger. I never realized that less than 200 miles from where I lived people were going through things I could never imagine. It was the start to my life of service. I realized that the roles could have easily been switched.

Being born is the ultimate lottery in life. I was lucky to be born to the family that I have. I have almost been homeless a few time, but luckily I never had to sleep on the streets or in a shelter. My father has never been around, but when he had a chance to take care of my brother and I, he abandoned us with just an EBT card. When my father left, he left a three thousand dollar electricity bill, so for three months I lived in a house by candle and flash light. I thought my life was bad because of what my family and I went through. The point of me saying this, is that my problems were minor compared to what some people are going through in life.

My problems are always going to be minor compared to what some people go through on a daily basis. That is why I am dedicated to helping others around the world. My ultimate goal is to have my own non-profit organizations, so I want to gain experience and figure out what works for a non-profit and what doesn't. The only way to get the proper skill and knowledge to run a non-profit, is to work for a successful non-profit and see what it takes to make the difference that will last!
