Entrance to the Adelaide Oval, often hailed as “the world's prettiest cricket ground.” It sits between Adelaide and North Adelaide, along the banks of the Torrens, immersed in trees and grassy parkland.

The River Torrens, back in central Adelaide, the main source of the city's water. The Adelaide Festival Centre is the white building on the left, where many of the city's myriad of festivals take place. Some of the world's most acclaimed festivals take place here, primarily the Adelaide Festival of Arts, which in turn has spawned the Adelaide Fringe (2nd largest in the world after Edinburgh), WOMADelaide, the huge world music event, and the world's largest literary festival: Adelaide Writer's Week. Little wonder the South Australia license plates say “South Australia – The Festival State.”

The iconic statue of Sir Donald Bradman, the world's most famous cricketer, often likened to Wayne Gretzky (or vice-versa) for his dominance and innate abilities. In cricket, a lifetime batting average of around 50 is considered elite; Bradman's was 99.94. He spent most of his life in Adelaide, while leading Australia to international cricket success. It is said that when Nelson Mandela emerged from prison, one of his first questions was, “Is Donald Bradman still alive?”
