Rundle Mall, the pedestrian-only shopping street of Adelaide, and opened in 1976 as the first pedestrian mall in Australia. Now they are ubiquitous in every city.

The fountain in the middle of Victoria Square represents the three rivers that supply Adelaide with water: the Torrens, Onkaparinga and Murray Rivers. Beyond the fountain is King William Street, the main north-south route through the city, and the widest main street of any Australian capital city. King William IV was monarch at the time of Adelaide's founding in 1836, and the city was named after his wife, Queen Adelaide.
