Later in 1901 the Australian National Flag was flown for the first time above the dome of the Exhibition Building. This was where the Victoria State Parliament met from 1901 to 1927, when the Federal government moved to Canberra and the State officials got their old building back. The Exhibition Building also hosted many indoor events during the 1956 Summer Olympics.
