Nice view of Melbourne from the pier at St. Kilda. The Eureka Tower is in the middle: 975 feet high and the 4th tallest residential building in the world (tallest when completed in 2006). 5 of the 6 tallest buildings in Australia (but not the tallest) are in Melbourne, and are grouped in either the east or west side of the CBD, except the Eureka which is in the middle and on the southbank, technically outside the CBD.

The pier at St. Kilda, looking back to shore. The man-made earth jetty was built for the 1956 Summer Olympics to create a safe harbour on the left for sail boats in the sailing events. The St. Kilda Pier is famous for the Pavilion, basically just a small kiosk with enough room for a little cafe. It was first built in 1904, and just as they were getting ready for the 100th anniversary, it burned down thanks to arsonists in 2003. They rebuilt it though and the replica here was opened in 2006.

St. Kilda beach, very popular on hot summer days, but still pretty nice in early April to a pasty Canadian.
