Here's the Etihad Stadium, one of the two big stadiums in Melbourne. The 9 AFL teams based in Melbourne split the two stadiums as home grounds: 5 at Etihad and 4 at the amazing MCG. Etihad holds around 55,000 people and was about ¾ full on this day, the Roos' home opener. The roof slides across as well on rainy days. After about 120 minutes of running around the oval, this match ended with a 143-56 thumping of North Melbourne by Collingwood, the defending champs.

Off to my first AFL game (Aussie Rules), Collingwood Magpies vs. North Melbourne Kangaroos. The Roos were the home team, and paraded out their new mascot, “Roo,” or something dumb like that, who proceeded to display some bad-ass hip hop dance moves with his white boys alongside.

The pier at St. Kilda, looking back to shore. The man-made earth jetty was built for the 1956 Summer Olympics to create a safe harbour on the left for sail boats in the sailing events. The St. Kilda Pier is famous for the Pavilion, basically just a small kiosk with enough room for a little cafe. It was first built in 1904, and just as they were getting ready for the 100th anniversary, it burned down thanks to arsonists in 2003. They rebuilt it though and the replica here was opened in 2006.
