Taylor Square and the heart of the gay district.

Big video screen showing the Mardi Gras parade, aka the Sydney Gay Pride Parade, the largest in the world. The crowd was 15-deep so virtually impossible to get a clear view of the scene. Thus the screen was set up at a main junction to help out the rest of us. Despite the name, it has nothing to with Shroves or Tuesdays.

A local bishop, perhaps. Actually one of the more touching participants was the group of Sydney Police officers, who notoriously beat and harassed the parade in its early days in the 1970's, and now are full-on supporters and are embraced by the community.
