My Experience
I have been writing films in Tokyo for the past seven years. One of my film scripts was taken up by the BBC. I was co-producer and writer of the film, The Boys of St. Columb's and writer of a book.
My Kind of Adventure
I love New York. I wanted to convey the sense of variety and verve of life there so I retraced the steps of people who have inspired me; to convey my curiosity about place itself, not just New York.
Ambition as a film-maker
Field experience under the guidance of Trent O'Donnell is a fascinating prospect. I see directing this travel film as a platform to directing my first feature film.
What would winning this scholarship mean to me?
This would the chance of a lifetime to ask questions of Rio visually, emotionally, and mentally.
My travel film will show the grimy, towering and congested favelas of Rio alongside the same miles of postcard picture beaches that hark back to the images of Rio since the 1960s: the carnivals, the pulsating cabarets, the caipirinhas at moonlight and the clouds of the bay at dawn.
But the untold story is important too: the homestay people's locality, the language, the colour and culture and rhythm of the street.
