My Scholarship entry - Falklands, south georgia and antarctica
Antarctica | Tuesday, November 11, 2014 | 5 photos
I started my adventure slightly unprepared, landing in Puerto Madryn, Argentina, with no hostel booked and no rooms available because of a long weekend i was unaware of. I decided to rent a car, drive to all the nature reserves and sleep in the drivers side incase i was awoken and had to make a quick escape. It all paid off the next morning in Punta tombo where i got that first shot you see of the Magellanic penguin. After being awoken by police the next morning i returned the car, hopped on a ship and headed to the Falkland islands where i found tho's two little rock hopper penguins in the long tussock grass along with thousands of albatross. We then ran into some bad weather and decided to make steam for south Georgia where i was lucky enough to land and found myself in a king penguin colony. Soon after that the wind picked up and after i got to see the massive glacier we headed to our destination of Antarctica! The frozen world we played in was to date the best days of my life and i was surrounded by these porpoising penguins, Leopard seals and a forever changing ice climate. I had to save for about a year to fund this trip and i'll be returning to the soulless oil fields of Alberta soon. Having the opportunity to learn from a real nat geo pro would be life changing to say the least, best wishes. Sincerely Felix Pope.
