My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Saudi Arabia | Monday, July 8, 2013 | 5 photos

My first taste of travel photography as an art form was at the age of 15 when I traveled to my parents homeland, India. I had an avid love for National Geographic, and after scouring the magazine photos at my local library, I would return home to daydream of all the adventures of a travel photographer.

With my first adventure abroad, I mimicked what I thought a professional photographer would do. I took shots of places and people from different angles, albeit, clumsily. The most defining moment came upon my return to Toronto, when I sent a photo to the Toronto Star, my local newspaper, of village women washing their clothes in a dirty river, and it was published! Admittedly, I was more excited about the $50 check they sent me than the actual photo being in the newspaper, as it was my first ever hard earned check.

Since then, I have carried my camera with utmost love for its ability to capture places in time in which my memory fails. Though I might be able to detect where to take a good photo, I lack real technical photography skills, and this scholarship, under the direction of Jason, would give that opportunity to foster and hone the ability to take that perfect photo.
