Their fishing rods are made of carved bamboo, and their lines and hooks are imports. They are leftover treasures from their fathers and uncles.

Despite their youthful physiques, they balance on jagged, slippery rock with expert strength and poise. Stormy days do not keep them from practicing.

As the storm clears, and the sun sets, this cargo ship breaks the island's isolation. After four months of waiting, weary travelers, much-needed medication, and a limited supply of goods make their way back to Fais Island. As the boys mature, each visit by the ship means an opportunity to leave and challenge themselves beyond this beach.
