My Scholarship entry - People of India
India | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 5 photos
My passion for taking photos developed in parallel with desire to travel. I needed a tool to capture what I was seeing, hoping my photos would also manage to reflect how I felt at the moment. As a trained biologist, following numerous debates with myself, I realized I enjoyed more to observe nature, rather than interfere with it. And I was always hoping I might do it free of any prejudice and preconceived ideas. This is why I enjoy meeting new people, learning about their culture and way of living, trying to understand what makes them happy or sad. I believe a good photographer should therefore posses high levels of empathy and respect. If I were to win this competition, I would hope the experience from Oman, learning from a professional photographer, would help me on various levels - from improving my technique to learning how to use my photos to convey messages and provoke an emotional response.
