Despite the gym on the top of my hotel I was also checking out a possibility to take dance classes somewhere close to where I live. I finally found a nice place called 'Casa da Danca Tati Sanchi'. As I just found out later, the owner of the gym - Tati Sanchi - made the choreography of High School Musical 3 - a movie well known for its dance parts. So actually I am going to a quite famous school in Sao Paulo! In November I started to attend only HipHop classes, as in the other classes (Street Dance, Jazz Dance) they were practicing for the audition in December. This particular HipHop class I am attending, is actually a lot of fun. It's a class, where you don't learn any choreography but rather just imitate the movements of the teacher - and the people there shake and dance as much as they can - even though it's often technically imperfect and people bump into each other cause they take the wrong direction. Once I moaned and complained to Henrique (the teacher) that Brazilians would just be born with a natural rhythm in the blood, but he denied and told me that Europeans are just more timid and ashamed to dance as open and freely as Brazilians do. I have to agree with this statement. I have hardly seen so many joyful faces in any dance class than here in Brazil. People just enjoy the music and perform without thinking of how it looks. Classes are also much less serious as in Europe - laugher and spontaneous applause occur quite often. Once a while they even turn on disco lights and darken the room to get you into the right feeling!! Now in January I also started to take Jazz Dance classes, which are pretty similar to Jazz Dance classes in Switzerland - so more serious and less laugher occurs.
