Day 116: Muiderslot

NETHERLANDS | Saturday, 21 May 2016 | Views [238] | Comments [1]

We had a genius idea to purchase a 24 hour card, including unlimited bus, tram and metro. So we decided to head South for some castle hunting! Muiden and Naarden are known for their castles and gardens. The most well-known of these is Muiderslot, located on the coast, on the river mouth and surrounded by moat and gardens (this link shows a great aerial shot of the area). You come across it all of a sudden, as it's hidden behind houses, so it's a nice surprise and I instantly fell in love. The tidy entry fee allows you to explore almost every nook and cranny - winding up and down steep stairs; popping in and out of secret rooms and balconies; interacting with games and props and of course dress up - very hard to resist, regardless of your age. We came across a group of about ten little boys, there for a knight's tournament party, dressed as knights carrying little wooden swords and sheilds. Extremely cute.
