Day 88 v2: Jericoacoara

BRAZIL | Saturday, 23 April 2016 | Views [382]

Flew Salvador to Fortaleza to get a transfer bus to Jericoacoara. POD is a stand for the water park in Fortaleza - which looks amazing and wish we had of stayed for that! With a bit of luck we were put on an earlier bus, which meant we would get in at 10pm, not 1am. 5 hours on the coach...why do they crank up the AC to a teeth chattering degree? Best part of this trip is changing from coach to adventure bus. Imagine a big ass bus with open sides - the kind you get on safari or Jaws at Universal Studios. It was huge, loud and super bumpy - so fun! First it wound it's way through a maze od dirt roads, so close to houses you could touch them. Up and down, in and out of mud puddles, with the moon light illuminating the landscape. I half expected to see Jaws swim by and it looked a lot like crocodile country but then I saw a cow or two and thought crocodiles would = zero cows. Then we busted out onto the sand. It was like a scene from Star Wars or Mad Max - a desert with huge dunes to my left and I think the ocean was to my right...as I said it was dark with the moonlight giving you an indication of the things around you. All I could think of was ("To the citadel!!!"). The streets are sand so only 4WDs, buggys and motos get in and around. Found our place with the host's instructions...which I only had on the iPad, whoops.
