My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited - Yamal Peninsula

Russian Federation | Saturday, June 8, 2013 | 5 photos

I recently went to the Arctic Circle and stayed with a family of Nenets - nomadic reindeer herders who live on the Yamal Peninsula in northwest Siberia. This incredibly untouched place with its spectacularly harsh climate inspired me to capture the essence of a landscape, culture and people that I was privileged enough to share a short time with.

I love taking photos – that searching for truth and beauty in a perfect frame. However, I have never received any professional teaching and feel that I would benefit much from the advice and knowledge of a mentor. The chance to learn new skills from someone who has had extensive experience in the field is exciting. I have begun to develop my own style but it is not yet polished. It would be fantastic to have a photographer help me improve and refine my technique and composition.

I have always taken photos for myself but I would greatly welcome the opportunity to be useful and take photos for a meaningful purpose. At the moment, photography is a hobby I spend most of my spare time on while travel is something I try to do as often as I can. It would be truly amazing to be able to align both my passions.
