Dresden... The first location in a long while where I have been completely by myself! Lets all remember, I'm used to being an only child. It's been great to just chill out! No small talk for a few days! I've done my own walking tour with the help of a picture book, I've lazed in a park reading, and have done a solo version of a beer crawl enjoying the outdoors and the views of the river. Lazy days are fantastic! Especially while admiring my new tan! On my second day, I hired a bike and went for a ride along the river and got lost in the park. Quite proud that I managed to navigate the roads - the trick is that whichever side of the road, bikes go both ways!
Side note: German bars have a habit of charging you a deposit for beer glasses... Laziness of the bar staff?... Fear of theft?... Annoying!
As in Munich, it is incredible to be in a city completely destroyed by WWII and completely redeveloped. The buildings here are incredible and hard to imagine they didn't originate from the 15th century still! Dresden is close to where my Pa spent his time in a German POW camp. So to hear about the bombing of Dresden from him and for me to stand here and imagine the extent of destruction makes me really appreciate Pa and the family he has built because of his survival.
Off to Berlin tomorrow! (And yes there will be socialising! And maybe a beer fest!)
