My Scholarship entry: "Death of a Gentlemen's Club"

I am an architectural art conservator by trade. My job is to notice details: the particular cast of light and shadows; subtle hues of colors; the crispness of a line. Looking at the world the way I do, I use photography to capture the world as I see it so I can share it with others. At this point, I would like to take that a step further and use my photography to address and create awareness of social and environmental issues.
Working as an explorer for National Geographic has been a dream of mine since I was a small child thumbing through old back issues in the church library while my mother rang notes F and G at hand bell choir practice. To be considered for this scholarship would be an honor beyond what I ever thought possible and a fantastic opportunity to learn from one of the best in the field.
I hope to become confident enough in my photography and observation skills that I can not only tell moving and inspirational stories through my photos, but also so that I could teach others to do the same. My goal is to establish relationships with schools in impoverished areas and teach children the skills they need to tell and share their own stories through photography and video.
