My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Brazil | Tuesday, June 4, 2013 | 5 photos

My first contact with photography was on infancy. I was delighted with the possibility of materializing feelings and freeze the time with a photograph. At the Geography college, during the fieldwork, I found out that it could go further: to share stories of the physical and human environment. In that moment, looking through the camera, that feeling from child turns into a great passion. While finishing the college, I participated in field classes throughout northeastern Brazil and Marajó Island in the Amazon rainforest. Since I graduated in 2002 I dream living with photography and being a photographer.
I love travelling, meeting people, places and have stories to tell. 3 years ago, I stopped everything and decided to turn the dream into reality. Today, I’m a freelance and my photography has proved to be a way of transformation, provoking reflection and positive change in the lives of traditional communities. I want to give voice to these people so that they begin to transform their realities.
All my training in photography is from research on the internet and books. So, Jason and his guidance in this scholarship are my opportunity to become a professional documentary photographer.
