Bangkok!

THAILAND | Friday, 5 December 2014 | Views [319]

Wow what a day, Bangkok is an insane city & we used every form of transport to explore!

We started with a taxi to a massive shopping centre, not part of the original plan but we needed memory cards. it was an American style shopping mall, huge with loads of western shops & a car showroom on the 4th floor (Ferrari & BMW). We treated ourselves to some home comfort & treated ourselves to a Costa coffee before taking a taxi to the train station to buy our train tickets to chiang mai.

We then tried to walk to China town but the roads we busy & crossing 4 Lanes of manic drivers was slightly dangerous. So we jumped in a Tuk-Tuk and then headed to the water taxi pier. We took a water taxi (long tails boat with an outboard motor) across the river to the canal system around the old quarter. It was an experience pretty bumpy & at times we both wondered if the boat would sink!

We survived the boat ride and jumped off at the palace, after circum navigating around the whole palace we finally found the entrance only to find it was 10 minutes to closing time. No palace visit for us. Next up the reclining Buddha (its been at least 24hrs since our Buddha fix). We explored the temples & shrines then tired hot & sticky we took a taxi to Khan San road (backpackers paradise). We wandered around the lively night market, tattoo parlour & cafes until we spotted a sign for vegetarian food......We followed it down a backstretch and found a little piece of chilled out paradise. Ethos. Smiles all round the food was amazing and we sat on floor cushions just soaking up the atmosphere. Reluctantly we left and caught the metro (underground system) back to the hotel. An interesting & exhausting day, 2 days in Bangkok is definitely enough.
