Day 4: Bagan by bike

MYANMAR | Monday, 24 November 2014 | Views [314] | Comments [4]

We cycled from the hotel to a local small village, with houses mainly made from bamboo to see how they make items to sell from bamboo including bowls, plates and decorative items.  It was amazing to see them just get a big bit of bamboo and start to cut it down and using their toes to hold it as they cut through and pull away sections. We fed some goats as we walked through and bought a little black painted bamboo bowl with the middle section showing the bamboo and stopped with the locals preparing us green tea and nibbles similar to prawn crackers and nuts.  I had my first facial here: in Myanmar they use Thake wood ground down and add water to it and then apply it to the skin as a natural sunscreen, some have extra over the cheeks and then brushed, so Emma and I both had this, and yes there are pictures to follow :-)  Back on the bikes, cycled around and stopped at more pagodas. At lunch Xi had suggested we get a boat ride on the irrawaddy river to see the sunset, we all jumped at the chance. We cycled back to our amazing hotel with just enough time to have a jump in the pool which was amazing, change then short coach ride to river and we had 2 long boats between our group and some beers Xi had arranged for us all - it was lovely!!

Hi girls, what an amazing journey you are both on. The Golden Mount sounds awesome and I think I would have been with the lady who turned back and came home!!!!! You are both so brave and quite without any fear, so it would seem! Thanks for the blogs and we hope everything continues in such a positive way. The Stability Class is going well and Emily is fun - she and Alex have struck up a common interest in music. I just plod along. The class continues to hold the numbers. We do miss you! Our love Alex and Lindsay

Loving the blogs guys, keeping me off the Daily Mail! Can't wait to see the pics of your skirts and facials! Sounds as if you are loving every minute which is fab. All good here, met Vicki yesterday to talk weddings and have a walk on the beach with Poppy. Looking forward to the next installment xx

I think your holiday is all you dreamt it would be.....and then some. Probably going to take another 3 months from when you return to see all the photos, which we are looking forward to with baited breathe. Well you might not have been able to get to Kohima Emma but you have shadowed grandad as he too crossed the Irrawaddy albeit from Ngazun and I'm sure he would have preferred your beer and a boat! Soak it up XX mum
