Woke up late and caught the sky train to the MBK mall with our Scottish roomy. The mall was several stories high, absolutely massive!! We had a local feed of burger king haha. We only looked around one floor which had a huge market on it as we ran out of time. We waved down a taxi to take us back to the hostel and all five of us squashed in. Jess' itchy bite was really infected and sore so we decided it was time to intervene. Katene performed “surgery” on it lol and popped it with a needle we sterilized with a lighter- very gross, I couldn’t watch it. Because her feet were so sore just Steph and I went out for the night. First we went to a local place for tea that was more like a market with some seating. We were the only females and white people in there- we got stared at by creepy men. Next we went on our first tuk tuk ride to the state tower where the hangover was filmed to get a view of the city at night. The ride was very fast and scary, but a lot of fun, we laughed the whole way. At the state tower we went up 64 levels to a very exclusive outdoor bar. We were greeted by very well dressed Thai women who led us out onto the balcony. We were treated like royalty. The balcony was beautiful with a jazz band playing and fountains. But it was the view we came to see which was absolutely stunning. It took your breath away. The drinks at the bar were very expensive, as you would expect from such a high class establishment. Being backpackers we realized that no-one was taking any notice of whether or not we bought a drink, so we took a few photos and left not wanting to spend money we didn’t have. From the State tower got another tuk tuk to Khao-San road- as the taxis wouldn’t take us for 100 bhat. Khao San road has such an amazing atmosphere, such a buzz and alive with people, majority of tourists. It doesn’t have the tacky feel of the Pat-pong market. The market is surrounded by night clubs and there are even sun lounges out for tourists to get a massage- which a lot of people were getting as they sipped on cocktails. The market was great- not much room for bartering like Pat-pong, as there are so many stalls selling the same thing at a fixed price. We got a taxi home really cheap as we asked them to put the meter on, which is really the best way to go. You just have to hope they take you a direct route home. It was great last night in Bangkok.
