Regardless of religious background, every female who enters the National Mosque must be totally covered except for her hands, feet, and face.

A couple of older schoolgirls return to their studies at the National Mosque, built in 1965 as a symbol of the country’s recently won independence.

Robes and hijabs (or tudungs as they are known in Malaysia) are lent out to unprepared tourists upon entering the mosque.
