I encountered two Nepalese children on a remote mountain pass. Unencumbered by the pressures of the city, they were at ease in the presence of strangers. The engaging stare of the boy in the brightly coloured hood was surprisingly interrupted by the unabashed curiosity of his friend.

As life in frenetic Kathmandu stops and starts, things move on as usual in the slow paced surrounding hills. Here labouring women, towering loads atop tiny legs, trudge upwards into the mist.

Staring out from a monastery, the Himalaya are framed by snow and barbed wire. The space and silence of the mountains are in stark contrast to the congestion and noise of the city. The prayers of the threadbare flags, weathered by the elements, seem written on the mountains and sky.
