A landscape encounter of a land called Aotearoa.

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

New Zealand | Sunday, November 6, 2011 | 5 photos

For me photography has been a huge passion since around 6 years ago, when my grandad handed me his digital camera and said "you take this, i don't know how it works" From then on i have taken photos on my travels from around South East Asia, New Zealand,South America & The Alps. Shortly after finishing my time at college in England,I decided not to attend university but instead to work like mad in various restaurants & get out there with my camera and travel for 7 months. In this time i witnessed some incredible people & some unforgettable times. One of which was photographing the local surfers of a remote town in West Java, Indonesia. They tried to teach me to surf, needless to say i failed. But the experience will stay with me! I am 22 and live in a town called Dorking, south of London. I am blessed with where i live in that the Surrey Hills offer some stunning landscapes to shoot all year round as well as some great characters to get involved with. The particular set of photos i have decided to forward into this submission tell the story of my road trip around New Zealand. One of the most breath taking places i have been lucky enough to visit. Living with VERY limited money,my camera became a way for me to escape & be creative and see the country as in depth as i could.Driving around in an old campervan allowed us to really get off the beaten track and delve into what New Zealand had to be seen.Vast mountain ranges soon gave way to golden beaches which shortly stood aside for ancient glaciers & fiord lands, all the way through to built up cities & mineral pools. Every day was a new experience, never knowing where we will be cooking our soup any given evening. The idea of having the opportunity to keep traveling with my camera is simply. To hard to put into words. :)
