“Last to Leave” A small group of Chestnut-Breasted Mannikins were balanced on overhanging grass along the riverbank; they are easily disturbed and as I drifted along in my kayak, as predicted they took flight…all except this little guy. I could hardly breathe as my kayak drifted closer to the bank I was wishing for brakes, but I knew I couldn’t take my eye off the subject. Crashing would have been worth it for this little Mannikin who usually escapes me!
