My Scholarship entry - Shanghai: Twenty-Four Million & Me

China | Monday, November 24, 2014 | 5 photos

Dubai. Cardiff. Ningbo. I've lived all over. Mathematician. Teacher. Photographer. A glance at my CV will reveal a natural ability for a number of things and perhaps a hint of indecisiveness but it will also show you the one constant in my life: photography. I can't remember why I started. I think my dad got a free camera with a VCR he bought one day but all I know is I've never stopped. After an A level art result in the world's top ten, I spent a year studying an art foundation diploma. I specialised in photography but decided I needed time to develop myself. Three years studying maths allowed me to dabble in professional photography and act as a committee member for the university photography society but it wasn't until I started my China-based blog last year that I found a way to merge my love of art with travelling and watch them piggy-back each other to the point of published work. I know that I'm ready to turn the constant into a career. I'll get my hands dirty. I've been knee-deep in a typhoon and face-planted the floor chasing a frog for a photo and the opportunity to learn from a world-renowned photographer would be the first step into a career I know I belong in.
