My Photo scholarship 2011 entry
Worldwide | Sunday, October 23, 2011 | 4 photos
When I was gifted a Nikon D3100 last Christmas, it was as if a dusty box at the back of my mind had somehow unlocked itself, and in that box I found a part of me I never knew existed. Taking photographs is a lot more to me than just capturing memories, I see the world much clearer through a camera lens, and everything I look at is a photograph to me. Taking pictures is somewhat of an escape for me, an escape from reality into something much deeper. One of the dreams I’ve had since a child was to be able to travel all around the world someday, and the second I got that camera I knew that all I want to do is travel all around the world and take photographs of life worldwide. I love how photography is a universal language- it has no bounds, and each photograph can have a million various interpretations. If I win this competition I will make the most of every second in South Africa, and will be willing to learn every millisecond of each second! Photography is such a wide, wild world and I definitely have a long way to go. There is so much more out there to learn and honestly, I really want to soak in as much as I can. If selected, I know that everything I learn in South Africa will remain with me forever; it will most definitely be something that I will always cherish. I would absolutely love a chance to get out of the country for a bit and just explore, go on adventures, learn about various cultures and photography, and do what I love doing most- take pictures, and give the world a different perspective on life.
