My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

My passion for photography started out by chance. My Father’s old film SLR was stolen in 2008; insurance replaced this with an entry level DSLR. Four and a half years on, I’m yet to put my camera down.
My Father’s family lived in India for 25 years before I was born, and my Mother has never been one to put off travel on account of having to go alone. It is definitely in my blood to endure a constant feeling of wanderlust.
I recently completed my BA in Anthropology and Sociology. I am interested in exploring the blurred lines between how people wish to be perceived, and how the world perceives them, through the medium of photography. Anthropology has taught me to photograph people not as bizarre objects of interest, but rather as people enduring the ordinary and the extraordinary.
I have worked hard to build up my portfolio in an array of areas, but I am currently working full time at my Dad’s restaurant to avoid breaking the bank. I believe that the experience offered by this opportunity could launch me into the field that I strongly feel I belong to. Finally, I suspect that an Australian mentoring a Kiwi would make for large amounts of on screen banter, just quietly.
