Never before did I realize how important a crustacean would be to my transport ease and happiness. My Oyster card (transport card for all non-Londoners) has become one of my most important possessions. I just can’t believe how easy it is to get around on public transport here. Okay, I’m not working at the moment so I’ve yet to rely on public transport to get me anywhere at a particular time but for me it is just so overwhelming to see public transport made easy.
I come from a town where buses are like Bigfoot – some claim to have seen them and there is evidence that they exist but on the whole they are unlikely to be around when you need them. But here in London the number 24 bus has become my most reliable friend, taking me to the city and getting me home at any hour of the day or night. The tube is also great as a mode of transport, a landmark and a convenient meeting spot. I’ve even ventured along the overground train a few times, enabling me to get to some great fringe theatres.
I think I finally have an answer to that age old question – what would you spend your last $10 on? – I’d top up my Oyster Card and go somewhere!
