Make ready for to go. The ship's bosun poses beside the main bell on the foredeck as we leave A Coruna. The quiet confidence on his face reflects the mood of the crew who, under a new captain, were ready for success. Another crew member signals instructions behindd him.

The morning after. A crew member straddles the boom making repairs before we made port in Dublin. If was shortly after sunrise and the mood on board was jubilant as we had claimed second place in the race and survived the big storm.

Catching 40 winks. This crew member learned quickly to be an oppurtunistic sleeper. Watches rotated in 4 hour cycles on board, meaning that you worked from (for example) 4-8 o'clock each morning and afternoon. Trying to sleep in the intervening hours, with the ship pitching and rolling, was almost an artform. So every nap counted.
