Driving got v boring as we approached across a long plane. Mum started sneezing and we thought she must be allergic to the sheep! We stopped at an after hrs chemist and discovered we were in a Chinese/Korean neighbourhood. It was quite late when we arrived in town to our pre-booked deal at the Heritage Hotel.
We were told the weather would get worse and so headed out to Banks peninsula in the sunshine to explore the v quaint Akaroa. Another place to feed our imaginations with pioneer stories and gaze at rich blue seas and spectacular coast lines.
The second town day started quite windy, we were the only 2 tourists on the guided tour but it brightened up for the afternoon. We had some ‘free time’. Mum drove off to the coast and I explored local cafes and art galleries, catching up on some computing.
One curious thing on the tour- Christchurch was set up to be like a mini UK with class structure brought over by identify people with their different classes on the boats and Anglican religion which they had to make non-exclusive as their weren’t enough Anglicans to go round! But I’m pretty sure there isn’t a church in the UK that has a statue of topless women outside and a licensed café!
In the evening we found the Sticky Fingers restaurant but were disappointed their LP renowned Pavlova was no longer on the menu. Still we're doing pretty well on the eating front!
