Lucerne-Basel-Lausanne-Montreux-chillon castle-Lucerne

Nice weather. Jumped on the train and headed to Basel. Didn't like the
look of the town so jumped onto another train to Laussanne. This is the
french end of Switzerland. Quite an odd town as you have to walk up a
hill to get to the old town. We headed up to the cathedral and castle
but found we didn't really find the place appealing so headed back down
to the train station and onto another train to Montreux. This was a nice
trip as it is on the same lake as Geneva and the largest in
Switzerland. There were vineyard on the hills along the way. The style
of building was distinctly french yet the shutters were decorated in a
more German manner. Interesting blend.
We visited Chillon Castle. A romantic style castle on the lake and the
inspiration for Lord Byrons prisoner of chillon. It is an impressive
castle albeit small but yet on the inside it feels a lot larger. It was
lacking original contents in the museum but was worth the visit just to
explore the maze of walkways.
We have identified the castle at Zofingen. It turns out to be one of
the largest in Switzerland - Aarburg castle. It is unfortunately now
being used as a juvenile detention centre so is off limits.
We then headed back to Lucerne on the train. We traveled for over 8 hours on trains during the day and we have had more than enough for one day!
