Nuweiba, Egypt

EGYPT | Monday, 2 February 2009 | Views [919]

Hi All,

Glad to get out of the port of Nuweiba after immigration.

We already had a plan and headed out to a beachside area called Tarabin and onto Sababa camp. The taxi driver tried to get lots of money out of us but we already knew the correct price. Bad luck for him! We have read that egyptians almost always will make a ridiculous first price before getting haggled down to a reasonable price; think that they just think out loud with their dream price.

The area is just beautiful with date palms on the water and lots of comfortable cushioned areas for relaxing, eating and drinking tea. Our room was actually a cane hut which you might find on an indonesian beach. Quite a find. It all is a bit tired as the tourists don't come anymore in numbers since the terrorist activities from a few years ago in Dabah. Sad as it is clear that many have invested their life savings in the area and now it is almost a ghost town. Nice for us and there are coral reefs and lovely blue waters all around. Don't think there was terrorist activity here but it is a victim by association.

We had a nice big fish and chips meal last night. Cost us about 80 Egyptian pounds. Bit expensive but I needed the food and it was worth the money. There are a few germans and italians around the area and we spent the evening chatting to one.

Think one could relax a life away in this place!

Day 2. Just taking it easy and relaxing. Updating the blog and planning for the next couple of days. Heading to mount sinai tomorrow.

Forgot in the last post on aqaba (akaba). When in aqaba it is only a few km to Isreal in one direction, saudi arabia in the opposite direction and egypt across the gulf which is not really that far. The conversion of contries.

Bye.
