Hola Amigos,
Back from the Inca trail. Nice little 42km walk. First day was a stroll for 8hrs in the mountains. Found it hard going on the second day with a two pass climb. First was 1000m to a 4200m pass then down 700m to 3500m up 400m to 3900m then down again to the camp site near a supposed love shack inca ruin. Third day was only short thank goodness as I had picked up a head cold and wasn.t feeling like walking. Woke up at 4am for the final walk to machu pichu to see the sunrise from the sungate which was about 30min walk away (2hr walk from the camp). Unfortunately there was nothing to see but fog. Vanessa and I found the trail a breeze.
Machu Pichu was amazing. Closely followed by the amazement of the number of tourists who were arriving by the busload every 5 minutes.
Spectacular train trip from the end of the trail passing by heaps of inca ruins, steep mountains and jungle on both sides. That was of course a warmup to the main event - the on train fashion show. Yes that is right. The stewards also doubled as models for peru llama products. Oh yes. There was also a dancing gimp....
Adios,
David & Vanessa
