Hola All,
Arrived at Nazca all excited about the flight over the nazca lines. It was a lovely blue sky day and we say lines as we drove through the desert to the camping area. This turned out to be the grounds of a hotel across the road from the airport. Then the bad news. The arrangements had not been made and the travel agent was out of town until 5pm or alternately spend US$150 each on a flight now. We opted not to fly and heading out to chauchilla cemetery a pre columbian burial ground.
Next day. Arrangements made. Fog. Fog until 1pm and we got bumped from our flights and could not get a flight even for US$150. So a combination of tour incompetence and the weather prevented us from seeing the nazca line. I was so angry that i wanted to get of the tour right then but Vanessa insisted we stay for the inca trail. Probably the right decision... We headed into town and at least had some nice chocolate cake and spicy hot chocolate. The nazca highlight other than the gammy legged deer that loves spagetti and the spitting llama at the hotel.
We headed off for puerto inka about 4 hrs away. Beautiful place with inca ruins either side of the harbour. There was only a small hostel on the beach and no other tourists. Vanessa and I went for a walk and found a seal colony out near the headland. Nice. Really enjoyed it after the nazca disappointment.
BBQ on the beach. Camped on a the sand with the pounding waves just metres away. Opened a couple of bottles of pisco.
Adios,
David & Vanessa
