Huanchaca

Hola Amigos,

Spent a couple of nights and a day at Huanchuca which other than being a beach town is the location of the largest adobe city in the world. We visited the Chan chan city ruins

http://www.antropologia.com.ar/peru/chanchan.htm

Spent the afternoon learning to surf with morgan. Wondered why there was a guy in the surf wearing a crash helmet until my first wipeout. Turns out that the bottom was rocky and I hit the bottom hard. Have a bit of a bruise on my shoulder today. Was lots of fun but Edwardo, surfing instructor, had to get us out of the surf for remedial teaching as all of the class were hopeless.

Camping on the roof. Great view of the city. Strange place. Desert, desert, desert, city, beach, sea. Looks like something one would expect to find in the middle east rather than on the north coast of peru. The fishermen use traditional reed boats which was quite charming. Lovely pier and the biggest slice of lemon pie, followed by natural flavoured icecream. Oink. Oink.

Good news. Toilets are still western. Bad news the plumbing either doesn´t work or is clogged with something best not said...

Adios,

David and Vanessa
