Lima - Day 1

UNITED KINGDOM | Saturday, 24 July 2010 | Views [281] | Comments [2]

I spent most of the day in bed after leaving the others as i was rather tired from the flight.

When i woke the next morning I heard english voices in the corridor. i went out to explore and found people from the travel group that i´m joining up with. there are about 20 staying on with my tour and 5 leaving. Im the only new arrival at the moment so was asked if i wanted to join them.

We went on a good walk around Lima for most of the day. First we went on a tour of the Cathedral which is absolutley massive. Pope J-P 2nd last visited in 2005 apparently and they still had his robes. We then went to San Francisco Church which was much smaller but more fun. We joined a tour which was cool as we went into the crypt. this area was really cool as you saw big tombs piled full with bones which the tour guide mentioned "have been arranged artistically" bit strange if you ask me and i wouldn´t have wanted that job!

We then met up with more of the group for some lunch. Not Peruvian lunch but a huge stirfried rissotto and choc cake. After lunch we went off again and me, Lizzer (who just so happens to be from Cheltenham, This is such a small world) and Ryan went off to the Spanish Inqusition Meuseum. The meuseum was ok but was pretty small and only really showed you a few torture techniques used during the Inqusition. We then hedded fro China Town. This is easily the dodgyest area I have ever been to. to quote one of the others "dont look down at a map in China Town as when you look back up you´ll be naked". We then hedded back to the hostel to meet up with the others and wash up before dinner.

For dinner the whole group went down to Miraflores. This area is full of Restaurants, Bars and Nightclubs. We went in to a place and had a pretty rubbish pizza but it did the job. We then all went to an "English Bar" on the advice of a Canadian and then to a club. The group is really cool and we had an epic night that inluded Dance offs and the biggest bottles of beer you have ever seen. 1.1 l for 10 soles (2.50 pounds)
