My Scholarship entry - Wae Rebo

I always had a desire to tell stories, regardless of my limitations when it comes to recounting and describing with words. Instead, I would always rely on the image, the visual. This is what attracted me to creating comics, photography and film in the first place. But unlike drawing or arranging images in a ''moving'' narrative (i.e. film), when I started to explore photography I would focus on the things that the other mediums can't convey, presenting the objective as well as the subjective at the same time.
It is difficult to explain what goes on in the mind when I take pictures. The mind just drifts away and lets the camera take over. I feel that this is a great opportunity to hone my skills and take control of that intuitive process when I take pictures. Not to be a slave to intuition, but to understand it and develop it further. In spite of today's overloaded technical wonderland where we are bombarded with images and all kind of gadgets that take pictures, I still believe photography is a challenging and very much personal art which is to be approached with understanding for the technical, as well as human. This is what I find so rewarding in the whole process.
