Wae Rebo sustains itself with harvesting and trading raw coffee to nearby villages. The village itself is still maintaining a traditional lifestyle with strict rules and regulations that are to be respected upon entering the village, although in recent times there are modernities like small generators slowly entering the lives of villagers.

Misty playtime around the central altar in Wae Rebo, a secluded traditional mountain village in West Flores. Since there is no school in the village, the children have to attend the one in the nearest town located 4 hours walking distance from there.

As the only remaining examples of authentic Manggarai houses, the grand Mbaru Niang serve as communal buildings, gathering up to eight families under one roof.
