This evening finds us in the Lake St
Clair World Heritage National Park, camping a stone's throw from the
lake. Over the last few days we've spent an interesting time in a
caravan park in Melbourne, which culminated in us packing up and
leaving at half past midnight, surviving a reasonably rough ferry
crossing to Tasmania, and lots more driving.
So far we've visited Mole Creek and
seen glow-worms in a beautiful cave, and stared down the Devils
Gullet. We've even seen honey being made.
We spent the last couple of nights in
one of the best equipped camp sites I've ever seen, with indoor
electric BBQ's, hot showers and internet access! While there we went
for a walk in the Cradle Mountain World Heritage National Park, and
we both rose to the challenge of climbing the bloody thing to the
summit. All in, the walk took over 7 hours, and climbing the mountain
was 2 hours up and 30 minutes down!
Without meaning to belittle the
achievements of the day, the nights were also amazing, with wildlife
spotting aplenty. Wandering around our campsite we encountered
wallabies, possums, an echidna and even a baby Tasmanian Devil!
Wandering around of an evening led to encounters with wombats, more
possums, and even a Quoll (or bandicoot depending on who you listen
to...).
